Each piece created for this open call focused on the formal qualities; colours were selected to be combined, with each small shape carefully cut out. The process involved placing each element on the paper to lay out the composition. There is a sense of play within the works, not only through what the images depict, such as the legs of a giraffe and part of a bicycle, but also how the images have been brought together. There is an absurdity to the collages, which are each ultimately a harmonic blend of fragments, glued into place.
 
About The Artist
Catherine’s practice explores bringing images together and changing contexts through appropriation. By carefully selecting elements from her collection of magazines and found photographs, Catherine considers the formal qualities to present a beautiful, balanced piece. There are often underlying emotions where a narrative is built.
