Featured Artist of The Week: Ele Islamova!
"I am a self-taught artist. I create mixed media works that depict an imaginary world featuring two main characters named Sam and Lily where daydreaming and a simple life exist. In my work I intend to focus on subjects such as mental health, basics of happiness, kindness and hope. Growing up in Kazakhstan (Central Asia), completing my professional degree in Dubai (East) and living in London (West) for four years, had a significant impact on my worldview about core human values and the oneness of humanity. In my art practice I intend to focus on such values and make them the core subject of my work. Works presented here make part of the Childhood series I created in 2021. The work uses naïve symbolism to express deep philosophies by illustrating various episodes from the imaginary life of Sam and Lily. The work uses natural stones, epoxy resin and acrylic painting which in turn forms a three-dimensional effect. Along with the technique and imagery, the aim is also to facilitate a moment where the audience can escape the pressures of daily life and provide a sense of renewal within the individual."

Artworks in order:
Corners. 2021. Acrylic painting on wooden pano, decorated with with lab grown pink and
green zirconia and acrylic paste figures. Covered with epoxy resin . Size 50×50 cm.
When Sam decided to teach Lily how to play the Corners game, he had no idea that he would get such
a strong opponent in her. Since then, before going to bed, they always play a game (or two). Sometimes
he beats her, sometimes she beats him. But none keeps the score because, as maman loves to say “c’est
la vie, enjoy the experience”
You and me equals We. 2021. Acrylic painting on wooden pano, decorated with natural
stones and acrylic paste figures. Covered with epoxy resin. Size 50×50 cm.
This is us. You and Me. By looking at the mirror of the painting you become an essential part of it. Grab
a friend (or a stranger) look into it together. We all are one now – we are united through an experience
of this painting. Similar experiences unite us. No matter the social status, color of the skin, gender,
political views etc I dare to assume that, at the very core of our being, we all desire just one thing – a
lifelong experience of genuine happiness and inward balance. I wish you that! I wish us all that.
